Upscale dining brand with a global reached based in NYC is seeking experienced senior controller to lead and oversee financial operations, reporting, accounting, and internal controls. As a key member of the financial leadership team, this role will work closely with senior executives to ensure financial integrity, compliance, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, strategic thinker with a strong background in financial management and process improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Provide financial analysis, variance reports, and strategic recommendations to the CFO and executive team.
- Manage the budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes to support business objectives.
Accounting Operations
- Lead the accounting team, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in daily financial operations.
- Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management functions.
- Ensure timely account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies while implementing process improvements.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
- Lead internal and external audits, providing auditors with required documentation and responses.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax filings, regulations, and financial reporting requirements.
Strategic Financial Leadership
- Act as a trusted financial advisor, partnering with the CFO and executive team to evaluate growth opportunities and risk management strategies.
- Drive process automation and system improvements to enhance efficiency and financial reporting.
- Support business decision-making by providing financial insights and strategic guidance.
Team Management & Development
- Mentor, develop, and supervise a high-performing accounting and finance team.
- Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular reviews, and provide constructive feedback.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with the COO and CPO to align financial operations with business objectives.
- Provide financial insights and data to support operational efficiencies and strategic initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required; CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
- 8–10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with at least 3–5 years in a senior financial leadership or controller role.
- Extensive knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Proven experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
- Experience in hospitality, restaurant, retail, or consumer-facing industries is a plus.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights.
- Proficiency in financial software systems and advanced Excel skills
